15 Genius Kitchen Drawer Organization Ideas That’ll Make You Want to Reorganize Everything Immediately

kitchen drawer organization

Sometimes I wish I could just snap my fingers like Mary Poppins and have perfectly organized kitchen drawers. But unfortunately, that’s not the case (I’ll keep you updated though 🙃).

I’m sure I’m not the only one who struggles keeping their kitchen drawers organized when there are so many different kinds of utensils, dinnerware, Tupperware, and just kitchen basics to store.

And keeping them all organized when you’re moving through your drawers constantly is no easy task!

So as someone who has gone through all of the different methods of drawer organization, I’m here to tell you which ideas actually work.

Not which ideas will make your drawers look the prettiest (although some of these ideas look really visually appealing), but which ideas will help you achieve the most organized kitchen drawers long-term.

And once you start implementing these systems in your own kitchen, you’ll find it’s SO much easier to find what you’re looking for on the daily.

Trust me on this one, the payoff off of freshly organized kitchen drawers is totally worth it!

This post is all about the kitchen drawer organization so good, you’ll be able to find everything in 3 seconds.

The Best Kitchen Drawer Organization:

1. Use an Expandable Organizer to Perfectly Fit Your Drawer

One of the hardest parts about using drawer inserts to organize your kitchen drawers is being able to match the size of the organizer perfectly to fit snug inside of your drawer.

I’ve found one of the best ways to solve this problem is with an expandable organizer. That way you can extend it just enough to fit your drawer, or the amount of space you need to store kitchen tools.

2. Store Food Container Lids Vertically So You Can Grab the Right Size Instantly

Food containers and their lids are such a pain in the butt to keep organized! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to just give up on organizing them all-together. But treating your lids almost like a filing system, and storing them vertically (preferably by size too) will totally change the game!

Instead of digging through you drawer, trying to find the right size to fit onto your glass container, you know exactly which one to reach for just from a glance of your Tupperware drawer. It can be that simple!

3. Create a Coffee Drawer With Sections for Pods, Sweeteners, and Tools

For all of my coffee lovers out there, it’s so helpful to have a designated drawer for all of your coffee essentials. It doesn’t have to be big or luxurious by any means, just big enough to fit a coffee pod organizer and a couple of clear containers for all of your extras.

A coffee drawer is one of those things that will make your morning so much easier – considering you have everything at your fingertips (literally). Which is super important for a coffee drawer considering you’re probably half awake before you drink your first cup haha.

4. Create a Pasta Drawer With Matching Containers and Labels

You know you’ve made it in life when you have a pasta drawer! This honestly looks like something out of my dreams haha.

But even if you don’t have the space to dedicate an entire (deep) drawer to your favorite pastas, you can still recreate this idea and swap the pastas for dry ingredients like flour, sugar, oats (items you usually keep tucked in the pantry).

A lot of people don’t have a ton of pantry space to work with, so taking those dry ingredients that you are constantly reaching for, and moving them to a more accessible location like a kitchen drawer, not only frees up more pantry space, but will make your life a lot more convenient when you don’t have to constantly go in and out of the pantry.

5. Transfer Spices Into Matching Jars for a Clean, Cohesive Look

Spices are one of those things that can single-handedly ruin your beautifully organized kitchen (if they’re not stored correctly).

Everyone has their favorite way of storing spices, but personally (after some trial and error), I’ve found that they fit best in a drawer where you can see everything up front so there are no hidden or forgotten about spices lurking in the back.

Now I know this part is easier said than done, but I promise you, switching your spices from their original containers to matching ones (with labels) will be one of the best things you do for your kitchen organization. It’s so visually appealing that you will find yourself opening your spice drawer just to admire how good it looks!

6. Group Matching Container Sets Together So Nothing Gets Lost

Don’t ask me how, but without fail, there is always a lid that doesn’t have a matching container or vice versa. I know for a fact I’m not the only one who struggles with this mystery. Where do they go? No idea!

But what I do know is that the more you’re able to keep your containers and their lids together, the less likely they are to wind up missing.

I know this tactic might not be the most practical, especially if you don’t have a deep drawer to work with, but if you’re able to, I highly recommend switching to this method!

It will also make your life so much easier when you go to reach for a Tupperware container and the matching lid is already with it.

7. Match Your Organizer to Your Cabinet Wood Tone for a Seamless, High-End Finish

When your drawer organizer matches your cabinet wood, that’s when your kitchen feels seriously put together!

Of course, the main goal of organizing your kitchen is to keep things practical, but when you can also incorporate a visual win, you’ll find it’s a lot easier to keep yourself organized since you have an extra motivator to keep yourself on track.

I don’t know about you, but I always have an easier time keeping an area of my home organized when I like how it looks.

8. Use Drawer Pegs or Dividers to Keep Dishes Securely in Place

You have to be SO careful with how you store your dishes. The last thing you want is to have them floating around your drawer, banging into each other, and possible cracking or breaking. There has to be something in your drawer that is keeping them in place.

Plate pegs are a great way to do this since you’re still able to stack your plates to keep things nice and convenient, and you don’t have to worry about plates sliding into each other when you’re opening and closing your drawer.

You do need a little bit of a deeper drawer for this idea, but it’s so worth it!

9. Transfer the Baggies and Wrap to Matching Containers

I hate to break it to you, but the cardboard containers that your baggies and kitchen wrap come in are not pretty, or super sturdy. So you might want to switch them out for containers that will do a much better job of keeping your drawer organized and making it easy to access these items.

The kitchen wrap organizer specifically is one of my absolute favorite kitchen organizers! The serrated edges that come with your tin foil and parchment rolls aren’t always the most reliable (especially when it comes to getting a clean cut).

10. Store Dishcloths Upright So You Can See Every Option

The filing organization system is seriously a game changer, and not just in your kitchen (hint: think dresser drawers too). But nonetheless, when you’re trying to make sure everything is visible, this method will do the trick – while also being something that you can easily keep up with!

You don’t have to worry about digging through your kitchen drawer when everything is within reach.

11. Use Deep Compartments to Stack Serving Utensils Without Creating a Junk Drawer

Serving utensils don’t tend to work super well in shallow drawers, so a deep drawer it is! And with deeper drawers, it’s best to use an organizer that actually fills out the drawer and maximizes the amount of storage space you have.

You’ll also want to make sure the organizers you choose are long enough to fit your longest serving utensils. I know that sounds like a “No duh!” statement, but if you’re not measuring, it’s easy to make this mistake.

12. Store Baking Sheets Vertically to Save Major Space

I’m shaking my head thinking of the time I use to stack my baking sheets on top of each other. 🙂‍↔️ I could have made my life so much easier if I didn’t force myself to pull out all of my baking sheets just to find the one I was looking for. But you know what they say, “Know better, do better!”

But let me save you the frustration and introduce you to a system that actually works for storing your baking sheets – and once again, it mimics a filing system.

This is one of those ideas you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of, because it just makes sense!

13. Use a Custom Wood Insert to Give Your Cutlery Drawer a Built-In, Luxury Look

Copy this kitchen drawer organization idea:

BUY ON ETSY

You might have an awkward drawer size where normal drawer organizers don’t really make sense for the amount of room you have. You can always try to mix and match organizers and try to arrange them like a puzzle, but there is no guarantee how efficient that will be.

That’s when you might want to go for a custom drawer organizer so you’re not dealing with a couple of smaller organizers sliding around every time you open and close the drawer because they don’t quite fit the dimensions.

Custom organizers also make it look like your drawer has built-ins – very seamless and visually appealing!

14. Add Individual Compartments So Mugs Don’t Bump Into Each Other

Copy this kitchen drawer organization idea:

BUY ON ETSY

If you’re someone who owns a lot of mugs (guilty), it’s not such a bad idea to store them in one of your kitchen drawers. I mean, it gets to the point where they won’t all fit on the counter, and they get too difficult to store in a cabinet, so this is your next best option.

You can actually fit a surprising amount of mugs in one of these organizers, which might be worth considering when you’re trying to find a new home for your collection.

15. Store Tea Bags in Shallow Compartments So You Can See Every Flavor

Copy this kitchen drawer organization idea:

If you’re a tea loving girl like myself, you’re going to want to ditch the tea boxes that the individual bags come in and use a clear organizer to organize all of your favorites.

I cannot tell you how much room those tea boxes will take up in your drawers or cabinets, and they’re pretty unnecessary. Especially when you have a system that allows you to see your entire tea collection without sacrificing valuable drawer space.

This post was all about the kitchen drawer organization so good, you’ll be able to find everything in 3 seconds.
